Recently there have been some hacking attempts on some of our members so I thought this would be a good time to remind you all about making sure your account and email address associated with that account are secure (including secret recovery questions!!). As long as you secure your account and think twice about clicking dodgy links then you will be fine and have nothing to worry about. Make sure your registered email address is secure and up-to-date Nice easy one - If your registered email address password is not secure or you nolonger own the account/it has expired then your rs account is not secure. Try not to use the same password for rs that you use on other sites, even on your email account. Secure Passwords As some of you may or may not know, I do a bit of work for airports now and then. They have recently given some advise to employees/contractors which I think is relevant here. Lots of people get hacked through having a simple password like a word in the dictionary or a name. Hardware and software used to hack now is becoming so advanced that even people who use a 4 instead of an A or a 3 instead of an E in words and names are reasonably easy to unlock. The above advise is very easy to follow and means you having a better chance of survival should hackers take a liking to your Runescape/site/IRC accounts. All you need to do is make sure the password is at least eight characters in length and make sure it contains a mixture of one or more numbers, one or more lowercase letters and one or more uppercase letters. THE LENGTH OF THE PASSWORD IS THE MAIN FACTOR SO EIGHT CHARACTERS AT LEAST!! EXAMPLE: 4tFvo5534P Of course the longer it is and the better mixture of numbers, lowercase and uppercase the more secure it is. People generally don't get my passwords as they are about 26 characters long and complete gibberish. I suggest you do the same though keeping in mind you have to memorise them too! sadly enough we can't use a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters on rs, and not special characters either, i have wanted that for years. |
